Cotyledon and Tylecodon are very similar species so closely related that one may be a sub-species of the other. They are characterized by fat succulent leaves atop thick rough bark stems and trunk. Some species remain leafless most of the year and typically have green bark for photosynthesis. They are also relatively short shrubs typically reaching maturity at less than one meter (39 inches).
